1. Arundhati Bhattacharya on 2 August 2013 was appointed the managing director and chief financial officer of the State Bank of India(SBI). She is the first female managing director at SBI which is India's largest bank. She succeeded Diwakar Gupta who retired a couple of days ago.
2. Samantha Power on 2 August 2013 took oath to the office of US ambassador to United Nations. Vice-President, Joe Biden administered her, the oath to the office in a ceremony at the White House.
3. Hassan Rouhani, a moderate cleric who was a surprise winner in the recent elections, took oath on Sunday as Iran's seventh President at a ceremony attended by a galaxy of world leaders, including Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India.
4. Poonam Dhull(24), a daughter of a driver employed with the Haryana government has bagged a scholarship of USD 50,000 for pursuing a PhD in Chemistry from University of South Carolina, USA.
5. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja on Sunday became the first Indian bowler to top the bowlers' chart in the latest ICC ODI Player Rankings after former captain Anil Kumble claimed the pole position way back in 1996.
