1. Dadra and Nagar Haveli celebrated its 60th Liberation Day on 2 August 2013. The Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli were liberated from the Portuguese rule.
2. Providing immunity to political parties from Right to Information Act (RTI), the Cabinet gave its nod to amend the transparency law to keep them out of its ambit by declaring that they are not public authorities.
3. In yet another step to rescue the battered rupee, the Reserve Bank of India, on Thursday, tightened hedging rules by making it mandatory for foreign institutional investors (FIIs) to obtain consent of holders of participatory note (P-Note) and derivative instruments before hedging.
4. Cabinet Approves interest subvention scheme to provide short-term crop loans to farmers at interest rate of 7 per cent per annum.
5. The Union Government of India on 1 August 2013 relaxed the norms for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the multi-brand retail.

7. Former Maharashtra Minister and leading figure in co-operative movement in Vidarbha region, Chatrapal Anand alias Babasaheb Kedar, passed away in wee hours today at a private hospital after a prolonged illness.
8. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday dedicated two projects of PSU BHEL in Thirumayam at Puthukottai district. Dr. Singh dedicated BHEL's Rs 1,000 crore High Pressure Boiler Plant Unit-II, a greenfield initiative,and the Rs 300 crore power plant piping unit to the Nation.
9. Punjab govt appoints elder daughter of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, Swapandeep Kaur as Naib Tehsildar. CM Mr. Parkash Singh Badal personally handed over the appointment letter to her in Jalandhar.
10. N. Srinivasan has dropped his bid to reinstate himself as BCCI President after the under-fire Board called off its Working Committee meeting in New Delhi.
11. India won four medals, including a gold, at the Asian Grand Prix Archery Championship which concluded at Ulaanbaatar, (Mongolia) on Friday.
2. Veteran music director V Dakshinamoorthy passed away at his residence in Mylapore, Chennai last evening. He was 94.
3. Runa Laila, the SAARC Goodwill Ambassador for HIV/AIDS visited India from 31 July 2013 to 2 August 2013. The objective of the visit was to extend support to the cause of HIV/AIDS especially on the issues of Stigma and Discrimination related to People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV).
4. The Director of Agni Missile Project, Defence Research and Development Organisation- Tessy Thomas announced on 2 August 2013 that the Agni V missile would become operational by 2015, with two or three successful test firings.
5. Rajeev Rishi took over as the Chairman and Managing Director of Central Bank of India on 1 August 2013. His appointment is for a period of five years.
6. USA star Ryan Lochte swam through the pain barrier to win two golds on Friday at the world championships as he followed his 200m backstroke victory with 4x200m freestyle relay gold.
7. India’s DRDO develops Explosive Detection Kit, US to manufacture. In a reverse technology sharing between India and the US, the kit developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation - DRDO - will help in quick detection and identification of combinations of explosives.
8. Soumya Swaminathan has lifted the 40th National Women Challengers Chess championship title in Pune.
9. India have made a clean sweep of the five match ODI cricket series against Zimbabwe.
