1. One of the world’s largest railway systems is going mobile. Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation(IRCTC) will be starting SMS-based ticketing services from 1st July that will link the mobile number with IRCTC and the bank for payment purposes.
2. India-Afghanistan co-operation in education field to be enhanced.
3. India, China hold border talks in Beijing.
4. Union Cabinet has approved Mumbai metro line 3. The estimated cost for the metro project has been pegged at Rs 23,136 crore.
5. Lucknow Metro Phase 1 to begin by year-end.
6. The Rajasthan government on 27 June 2013 launched a unique scheme called Mukhyamantri Bijli Bachat Lamp Yojna for energy conservation. The State government will provide 2 CFL bulb free of cost to all electricity consumers of villages and BPL consumers in urban areas.
7. Eighteen rural girls from Jharkhand are all set to board a Madrid-bound flight on Thursday to play Donosti Cup football tournament in Spain from 1st -6thJuly. The girls will represent Yuwa-India, an NGO.
8. The I&B ministry in Month of June 2013 has cancelled the licence of 15 channels and suspended the license of seven others for 30 days as they fail to abide by with licensing conditions.
9. Support price of paddy hiked by 60 rupees to 1,310 rupees per quintal ; Prices of some pulses and oil seeds increased up to 450 rupees.
10. Government sets up investment target of 1.15 lakh crore rupees for Public Private Partnership projects in infrastructure sector.
11. An agreement for credit of US$ 84 million from World Bank for the Bihar Panchayat Strengthening Project was signed today at New Delhi.
12. The United States Senate has passed the comprehensive immigration reform bill that will provide a pathway to citizenship to some 11 million illegal immigrants,including over 240,000 Indians. Bill is called as“The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013.
13. In the biggest single day gain in 22 months, Sensex surges 520 points to close at 19,396; Gold declines 1,150 rupees to 25,650 per 10 grams.
