1. Himachal Pradesh on 2 July 2013 was declared as the first Smoke-free state of the country. The declaration was made in compliance to Section 4 of the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003. Himachal Pradesh achieved 85.42 percent compliance with the relevant parameters to be declared as the smoke-free state.

2. Inter-ministerial body Telecom Commission on Tuesday gave its nod for raising foreign direct investment limit in the sector from 74 percent to 100 per cent subject to Cabinet approval.

3. Ministry of Tourism of India on 2 July 2013 agreed to a proposal from the visiting Tourism and Travel delegation from Nepal for joint publicity of India and Nepal as Tourist destinations in other countries.

4. Top seeded Indian Grand Master Parimarjan Negi won the Continental Chess Association Open title, his third of the season, after pipping his nearest rival Bindi Cheng by 1.5 points, in Washington.

6. Spain's Telefonica launched the world's first smartphone with the Firefox operating system to compete with devices running Google Android and Apple IOS. The ZTE Open smartphone goes on sale in Spain this week for 69 euros (90 US dollars)

7. Government has approved eight 1311 crore rupees proposals of FDI. The approval is based on the recommendations of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board(FIPB).

8. CBI today said that the 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter was fake. Investigating agency filed a chargesheet in which it contended that encounter was a joint operation between Gujarat police and Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau, SIB.

9. Egypt: Pressure mounts on President Mursito quit as Army deadline for reconciliation expires today. Though, he has rejected military's ultimatum and asked the army to reverse its stand.

15. Third edition of Dubai World Indoor Football Championship begins at Dubai World Trade Center on Tuesday.

16. The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics Organizing Committee on 26 June 2013 made a declaration tosend Sochi 2014 Winter OlympicsTorch into the space in November 2013. The torch would be sent to the International Space Station (ISS) from where it will be sent for a space walk. This will be the first time in the history that Olympics Torch will be carried in the open space.

17. The Indian Kabbadi players won two Gold Medals in Kabbadi event at Asia-Indoor and Martial Art Games, being held in Incheon, Korea. Both men's and women's team of Kabbadi won gold.
