1. India celebrated its 67th Independence Day on 15th August with enthusiasm.

2. Union Territory of Pudducherry celebrates its 52nd De-Jure or legal merger with Indian Union Day today. It is on this day in 1962 the French Parliament ratified a treaty signed by India and France in this regard.

3. India assured Bhutan of assistance in financing, executing and monitoring its 11th Five Year Plan in a proficient and effective way.

4. UNICEF will conduct a nationwide survey on child trafficking in India.

5. The Central Government raised customs duty on gold, silver and platinum to 10 percent in a bid to curb the surging imports and burgeoning Current Account Deficit.
